Using social media marketing effectively allows small business owners to connect with potential customers, build brand awareness, and generate traffic and leads.
Let’s Grow Your Business With Social Media
Social media is a powerful tool for businesses of all sizes and can be especially helpful for small businesses.
Here are Some Tips on How Social Media Marketing Can Help Your Business Grow:
- Connect with potential customers – In the words of marketing guru Seth Godin, “Marketing is no longer about the stuff that you make, but about the stories you tell.” Social media provides a unique opportunity for small businesses to craft compelling narratives and forge genuine connections with their audience. By engaging in meaningful conversations, addressing customer inquiries, and sharing valuable content, businesses can cultivate a community of loyal followers who become customers and advocates for the brand.
- Build brand awareness – Social media is great for building brand awareness and getting your name out there. Sharing your brand story, posting photos and videos of your products or services, and participating in relevant conversations can help people learn about your business and what you offer.
- Generate leads – Social media can be a great way to generate leads for your business. By running contests and promotions, offering discounts and coupons, and sharing exclusive content, you can encourage people to sign up for your email list or visit your website.
- Save Money – Utilizing social media can take a relatively short time and save your business a lot of money for the return it generates.
- Create More Sales: 55% of consumers learn about new brands on social media, and 68% of consumers check out a company’s social media presence before making a purchase. According to Sprout Social, “78% of consumers are willing to buy from a company after having a positive experience with them on social.” I tend to agree with these numbers. They may even be higher.
- Test Social Media Advertising: Boosting posts, promoting your product or service, and advertising to gain real followers interested in your product or service will drive traffic to your website. This works fast and effectively, but you must test several ads with a small amount of money to see what works for you.

It’s important to remember that success with digital marketing takes time and effort. You can build a following and grow your business by creating high-quality content, engaging with your audience, and consistently posting daily.
Three Steps To Use Social Media and Grow Your Small Business
Step One:
Be consistent. As we mentioned above, one of the most important things you can do to grow your business on social media is to be consistent with your posting.
Post new content regularly, at least once daily, on one social network or each platform where your customers are active.
It helps if you can post content three times or more a day, but this will take some planning and social media scheduling. There are plenty of tools to help you do this.
Step Two:
Engage with your audience. Social media is a two-way street. If you want people to engage with your content, you should also engage with them.
Feel free to follow them back. Respond to their comments and questions, participate in relevant conversations, and share their content.
You will soon find that engaging with your customer base and followers will lead to trust and, eventually, more sales.
Step Three:
Be patient. Social media takes time to grow. Don’t expect to see results overnight.
Keep creating great content daily, engaging with your audience, and consistently posting; you will eventually see results.
Follow your followers back; this helps with engagement and shows them you are also interested in them. I repeat this because many people believe they shouldn’t follow many people back. I’m afraid I have to disagree.
Follow, like, share, and engage with the content and people you are interested in. You will make your social media experience so much better.
Pro Tip: Use the Native scheduler on the social media platforms or use a social media scheduling tool. I find it best to schedule posts on certain days or times. Scheduling time each week to create content allows me to focus on content that adds value to my followers and my business.
By scheduling your posts for a week or two ahead, you will always have content going out to your audience. Things come up. Life happens. Scheduling posts will also give you more time to engage with your followers.
I have used a tool called Hootsuite for many years, and I use the native schedulers on a couple of the major social networks to load up my content and schedule posts for a week or more.
I also constantly test new scheduling and social media management tools as technology advances rapidly. I am testing a new one now that I like a lot, and I’ll update on this soon.
A Few Tips For Creating Engaging Social Media Marketing Content
In today’s competitive digital landscape, creating engaging social content is crucial for building a loyal and engaged audience. Here are some tips for crafting unique, value-driven posts that keep users interested and engaged.
One of the fundamental principles of social media marketing is to keep your content fresh and relevant.
Social media users expect to see new and interesting content that reflects the latest trends and discussions in their field. They want to be informed and entertained and consume content that is of value.
They are looking to learn something that benefits their interests and needs. Crafting unique content for your social channels that distinguishes you from your competitors is essential for fostering loyalty among your followers.
Users will likely share and engage with your content if it speaks to their interests and offers a fresh perspective.
As a small business owner, when creating content, think of ways your social media can help your followers and reach new potential customers.
Ask yourself, what can they learn from your post, or will this post get someone, even one person, inspired?
Put yourself in the shoes of your followers. Think to yourself, would you receive value from your post?
A way to step up your game for your business is to collaborate with influencers, utilizing influencer-generated content, and co-creating content with thought leaders is an excellent way to tap into new audiences and boost your brand’s authenticity.
Influencers can provide valuable insights and perspectives that might be missing from your content creation process. Focusing on providing value is also key to creating engaging social content.
Always ensure that your posts offer something different or insightful, whether information, advice, inspiration, or entertainment. Learning how to balance value and entertainment will help you achieve your desired results on social media platforms.
Use original images and videos whenever possible. Visuals play an important role in capturing your audience’s attention and driving engagement. Using eye-catching images, videos, graphics, or even emojis can significantly boost the performance of your social media marketing content.
Use stock images or AI when original images are not possible, and today, with the introduction of Midjouney 6, AI images look very realistic.
Visual storytelling allows you to communicate complex ideas and concepts quickly and effectively, as it appeals to our natural tendency to process visual information more efficiently.
Another tip is to create conversation starters to encourage dialogue and further engagement among your followers. This can be achieved by asking questions, creating polls, sparking debates, or sharing thought-provoking opinions.
By fostering meaningful interactions, you will build a strong, engaged community invested in your brand and its success.
Advice For Creating Engaging Social Media Content:
- Use visuals. Even sharing slides, documents, or behind the scene video of your product. Visual content is more likely to be shared and engaged than text-only content. Use AI and or simple editing software, which is easy to learn and will make your images and videos stand out. Add text over the top of your visuals to make it easy for your followers and prospective customers to get your message. Share your photos, videos, infographics, and other visuals relating to your business on your personal social media accounts and have your employees do the same.
- Tell stories. People love stories. Share stories about your business, employees, customers, or anything else interesting to you. Stories are a great way to connect with your audience, and build relationships
- Be authentic. People can spot a fake from a mile away. Be yourself and let your personality shine through in your social media content. People are more likely to connect with you if they feel like they know you.
- Be consistent. I’ll repeat this because it’s so important; Post new content regularly, whether once a day or once a week if making YouTube videos. Consistency will help you build a following and grow your business.
- Engage with your audience. Social media is a two-way street. If you want people to engage with your content, you must also engage with them. As mentioned above, respond to their comments and questions, participate in relevant conversations, and share other people’s content. And don’t be concerned with following people back. If you find their content interesting, follow them and engage. I have found this to be highly effective in building an audience and connecting with some great people. This is why I repeat this important message. Engage 🙂
- Experiment. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different types of content and see what works best for your business. Sometimes humor works well; other times, it’s ” how to” posts about your product, focusing on the use of your product and the benefits. Remember that trying different things is the only way to determine what your audience likes. Ensure your marketing team follows your analytics to see what works best with your followers, just as you would when running ads.
Here are some ways to measure the success of your social media campaigns:
- Track your reach and engagement. Keep track of how many people see your posts and how many people engage with them. Look at how many likes your post receives and how many shares and comments. This will help you see how well your content resonates with your audience. All of the social media platforms offer free tools that track.
- Measure your website traffic. Use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to see if your social media campaigns and content drive traffic to your website. This will help you see how successful your campaigns drive leads and sales.
- Monitor your social media analytics. Most social media platforms offer analytic tools that can help you track your progress and see how your campaigns are performing. This information can be invaluable in helping you improve your campaigns. Check your Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook analytics at least weekly. It’s free and is a great way to leverage social media and give you the information you need to adjust your marketing strategy.
- Survey your followers. Ask your followers what they like and don’t like about your social media content. This feedback can help you create even better content that will resonate with your audience. You can do this through polls, emails or even talking to them directly.
- Run A/B tests. Try different types of content and see which ones perform better. Follow the numbers. This will help you improve your social media campaigns over time.
